Re: Chinese Import ATV VS Name Brand ATV
I have been purchasing Chinese Import ATVs and seems to face not problem at all.. I bought a few for my niece and nephews and they really enjoyed it! I think Chinese ATVs really have improved way much better than before. With the downturn economy, it doesn't feel a pinch spending on these chinese atvs. Good value for money, definitely!

You got lucky. Some brands have no problems at all and are great machines and others are not.

Re: Chinese Import ATV VS Name Brand ATV
Hi everyone. I can say something about Chinese ATV through my own experience. I have been importing heavy machinery from China and other countries in Asia and I have a simple rule, if you buy cheap, expect it to perform as cheap!!! There are many Chinese ATV brands out there. I can tell you since I ordered 2 chinese quads for testing purposes since I thought about importing them. You can tell when they say that if you order 10 pieces, they can print your brand name in the atvs, that you are buying only for volumes, and thus no quality at all. Factories that sell quads for other with different names are sure to produce cheap low quality unreliable bikes, at least 90% of them. The quads I bought were 250cc quads, clones of the Honda Fourtrax Foreman 400 but smaller and with the option of a Yamaha 250cc engine or a %/&/$( got knows what brand chinese engine. SO i bought one with the Yamaha Engine and the other unknown brand. I paid around 1950 for the Yamaha and 1300 for the Chinese. There was a significant difference in the powerband and response of the engine when compared to the chinese. Both bikes worked fine at the job site, doing basic chores like moving around, crossing some small puddles and that sort. But as soon as you go hardcore on them, the flaws become evident. Suspension broke within matter of days, loose exhaust support, plastic fenders rattling and falling apart, headlights broke. Leaking gas tank, loosen drum brake seals, and quite other. I sent a letter to the factory telling them all the things I though they had to fix, and they agreed they would. I got a quote on how much will the quad would cost me with those improvements. The price all of the sudden went up from 1950 to 2675, so even though its still cheap, for a few more bucks you can get a Japanese brand name. There are some good chinese ATVs out there I am pretty sure about that since I still own the Yamaha engine option 250cc chinese quad and it is still running after 2 years. All you have to do is invest some extra time and money to have it running and in great conditions, but don´t expect a 1950 USD quad to perform like a 3500USD brand name. You get what you pay for. In other words, if you buy a Miata, don´t hope it will outperform a M5 Bimmer!!! At the moment, the heavy machinery I have bought from China works great and is cheaper than other brands, but I always for for the non chines engine option (german, italian, korean, american...) and the other sensible items are usually outsorced and bought from companies like Sanfoss, Carraro, Deutz which are very reliable. The only place where you save money in the product is in the assembly line. Thats why you can sell cheap and still offer some quality despite the fact that they are not as comfy as JCB, Case or Cat. Hope my experience helps you forma decision at the time of your purchase.

Re: Chinese Import ATV VS Name Brand ATV
Listening to the radio, a talk show about farming & such, a guy was talking about the Low Buck tractor he bought & the neighbor who spent all that Big $$$ & got himself a John Deere. Story went like this:" I had my tractor & every time I sent the foreman out to do a job with it, he would come back & tell me what we needed to fix it so we could do that job". "I would have to borrow the neighbors Deere".
He went on to tell how his neighbor spent nothing on repairs, just oil, fuel & grease & used his tractor when he needed it, instead of buying cheap & spending $$$ all the time & working on it, to keep it running.. He sold his cheap tractor & bought a Deere.
Now, is that a true story or was that the most clever John Deere ad ever devised for the radio? I dont know.
Ive never known of anyone to be unhappy with their tractor..

Re: Chinese Import ATV VS Name Brand ATV
Remember when the cheap labor pool and budding industrial nation was japan, back when harley davidson made dirtbikes, and made in japan was the sticker that meant cheap? there used to be arguments like this all the time about japan vs american or european brands.I dont but my dad does.
eventually the quality of china bikes will catch up but the labor will still be cheap and the japanese brands will go by the wayside.
for right now i think the china kids bikes can be a good value. but i dont think id spend money on an adult piece just yet. I was a honda pro mechanic for years until a year or so ago and a racer too and i still ride a lot. when your talking about a little kids bike that will be outgrown in a year or three its hard to justify something like a $2850 msrp trx90x unless you have alittle racer or tough guy on your hands. i personally dont care if a 50 size ride is going to last for 10 years as many of the name brand ones do. chances are if your looking at kazuma or roketa the thing will probably last your little one as long he needs it to. considering i could buy my son ( hes 3, when hes 6 he will have a jap bike) 5 roketa quads for the same price its definitely a good value.
i also have a 11 year old nephew whos very timid and rides an undersized 50cc chinese bit around the yard constantly and still hasnt ever used more then half throttle. (he whines that its too fast if i turn the limiter up)
ive worked on the china bikes plenty of times. the alloys are cheaper, they are heavier. welds can be lacking, electrical is the big issue though. resale doesnt even enter into my mind, the chinese 500 dollar quad will resell for 0 dollars and the japanese 2700 dollar quad will resell for 1500 to 2000 dollars where am i losing more money?
your purpose is going to determine which is more value. for adults right now name brand is a no brainer ill shell out the 5-6k for that rather than try to buy one of the chinese 1200- 2500 dollar ones. its way worth it. an adult will have to fix the name brand stuff often enough that its a little bit of a headache. personally i wont even downgrade to a polaris or bombardier they break just a bit more often. for a kid unless he serious or racing or hes just the kind that breaks everything than id go with one of the bigger chinese brands. otherwise get the name brand and save the headaches.
what it comes down to is very simple right now for your yard burning little one who sees the occasional kiddy track day buy chinese reassemble it yourself with loctite do some adjustments and let him have fun. for your little racer buy japanese and dont look back. for you adults unless youre the rare yard burning mild rolling trail riding type buy japanese and dont look back.

Jetmoto Standard, Sport Hunter, ATV 250
Model; YMT-250ST-A, 2005
Engine; 253FMM85C00006
Frame; JMTA250C5000574
Here is the big problem; The rear axle is poorly designed and anything more that a light torque load on the rear axle will cause the forward gear to strip. This Chinese made 4 wheeler / ATV works fine as long as you do not exceed a quarter throttle or try anything other that flat, smooth terrain. It has a new $350 axle and after only an hour use the replacement rear axle that is starting to show the same problems as the original rear axle. If torque limits are exceeded it may break gear teeth off the forward gear and the idler gear. Jetmoto does not guarantee or warranty their replacement parts. Jetmoto is completely ignorant about this designed deficiency and will not rectify this situation. Jetmoto stuck me with a defective $350 axle.
