What Should I Buy, I NEED YOUR OPINIONS!
I have been pondering over wether i should buy a YFZ450(05-09) or a KFX450(07-09). I will be riding mostly tame well ridden trails but might get into some deep water or the trails might get alittle rough, and i have no desire to drive on tracks. What would be a better bike?

Deep water and rough stuff...you sure you don't want a 4x4?
Between the YFZ and KFX, both are real good quads. I think the YFZ is a little faster but the KFX has reverse (might be important to you).
I've always heard the YFZ is better, but I think it comes down a lot to what feels best for you (which you're most comfortable on) and which you can find at a better price.

You may want to consider a 400 class machine also. The 450s takes a lot of clutch work and can be a real pain on trails at times. The yfz tries to kill me all the time
The biggest problem is it doesn't like to go slow. Creeping through some more technical areas take some work and if you stall it watch out

I agree with tenney. You'd probably be better off with a Suzuki z400 or Honda 400EX. They're not as fast, but they won't beat you up as much and you'll have a much easier time riding them.

Out of the 2, I would choose the KFX for trails. Lower gearing(a bit, not much) and reverse are huge on trails.
I would recommend the 400EX...

Raptor 700 for trails
. I like the kfx450, just a nice quad and the Fuel injection and reverse is a plus. YFZ is a decent trail quad, you will have to gear it down. PPL will probably hate on me for this, but the 400ex is boring to ride IMO, just not enough power (and if you like hill climbs the front end is too light, needs a longer swingarm). I have a z400 it's really fun on the trails too, but i have aftermarket axle and front end it's a little tall and narrow in stock form IMO.

If you can get a 2010 YFZ450X its a new YFZ for trail riding its not as wide as the regular YFZ. Im not really up to date on it but i did look at some pictures and it looks really nice. If you can afford it you should check it out. one thing is for sure, Lots of power. from what ive heard it handles excellent for tight trail riding that is very fast paced and can manouvre around trees and stumps. I read about it in Dirt Wheels Magazine, Their test riders loved it.

I would definitely have to go with a 400 in your case. I decent z400 will be perfect for the job. Reverse, good ground clearance, great power reliability and not too wide either. While the 450's can be fun, you might get frustrated down the line when you're in trails getting caught up or going fast, just to slow down the next second for rocks and other obstacles.

YFZLover, let us know what you end up with...
I still say a 400-class machine would be best for you.

The 450s, unless you buy a track model, are no wider or lower than the Z400. Just look at what everyone runs in the GNCC races. 450s. Not Raptors or 400's. 450's for the tight, technical, rocky, muddy, every condition you can imagaine.

That can be true, but they have different gear ratios set up for the track. Whether it just be through sprockets or not, its not as easy to start in a trail in a first gear. By the way he makes it sound I feel hes in more technical trails with many rocks and other elements. I'd would just say a 400 might suite best, but thats me.

The 400 is a great choice for anyone riding trails. But the 450s should not be counted out.
