Chinese youth quads
Anyone have experience with these off brands in and around the 90cc size?? I hate to spend too much for my kids (almost 10) and then have to get rid of thme in 2 years at such a significant loss. Above and beyond 125cc I would only buy a major brand, but 90s seem a bit like toys anyway....

We use to own 3 125 cc atvs that were Terminators basically identical to roketas, THEY WERE JUNK, every time we rode them they would have to be in the shop, every part went on them, the engines are decent a little under powered, just the frame and components were sooo cheap. There is not much to go wrong on a 90 but IMO for the same price you can find a used quad, and a 90 cc i think would be too small for your son. What is you price limit?

Re: Chinese youth quads
The Chinese quads are complete hit or miss. I know people that have had nothing but great luck with theirs and I know people that have had more headache than smiles. The little kids quads tend not to lose their value too much, look for a named brand used.
The off brands are notorious for having loose/missing bolts. And if some thing does go wrong there is no aftermarket support for them. If you need a part, good chance you're screwed.

Stick to a major brand. As stoopidbot said, if you buy a Chinese quad and it breaks, you're in deep trouble because the parts are hard to find and usually expensive to get if/when you do find them.

Do you mean too small displacement wise or size wise?? Unfortunately, here in Wisconsin they can only ride 90 cc or smaller solo until they are 12, so I am stuck with this size range for trail riding.
Found a dealer with a RIPPIN" deal on a new 06 Quadsport 80 (he actually has 2) for $1199, so I think that's what I am going to do. Any feedback from you all on this quad?? I figure the 80 2 stroke has to be at least as powerful as a 90 4 stroke...

Re: Chinese youth quads
On a 90 'till he's 12? That is the stupidest thing I've heard in long time. The nannies have a good hold of you guys up there huh? If thats the case I'd consider the ability to manipulate the clutch on whatever you buy. As he gets bigger, heavier and better skilled you might like to remove a couple of weights from the primary clutch. This will give the wheeler better bottom end, making it a better climber, mudder and all around better for a kiddo that size. We have an Arctic Cat 90 (Kymco) and it is very flexable. Its Chinease but parts are easy to come by through AC. I'm sure that most of the major manufactures offerings can be manipulated and I'll bet most have a better aftermarket following. There is pretty much nothing in the way of pipes and such for the AC 90 available. With a few mods I'm happy with the AC but I don't have a 12 yr old on it either. I have buddy who's kiddo rides a Honda 90 with a 4 speed and it has waaayyyy better power and a great aftermarket, you might look into those.

Re: Chinese youth quads
2006 quadsport 80 was 2 stroke and not 4 stroke? I didn't know that. All in all it will be a great machine considering its brand new, and what I meant by too small is that size of the machine. The displacement seems ok, he just might be full throttle a lot of the time. Also 2 strokes run a little faster then 4 strokes. If your planning on having the machine for a few years though until he can graduate up, I would honestly look at a 4 stroke such as a smaller honda or so. It will be more reliable IMO over the two stroke. Thats a great deal though but you should be able to get him down a little more even I think. Try to get him to go to 1,000. If you can, with that extra 200 bucks try and find a pipe for it to give it a little more power and an intake.

2 strokes are just as reliable as 4 strokes if you take care of them. I've got over 2000 miles on a single cylinder, piston, and rings on a 2 stroke.

Thanks for the info to all...bought it today and it was a good thing too, since he had already sold the other one and had someone sniffing around on the one I bought. That's what happens when you price stuff at 30% below the next closest competitor..

Re: Chinese youth quads
nice, im not sure you about the suzukis but I know for the honda 90 you can use a conversion kit to put 300 and 400ex a arms on it. You should see if you can with the suzuki and find a cheap pair of z400 a arms on it to make it wider and maybe add a pipe and air filter, it will feel bigger and more comfortable if you son is bigger

Re: Chinese youth quads
hey All,
Have not posted in this since I acquired the Quadsport 80, but so far it seems great. Couple of interesting notes;
Seat of the pants, compared to a neighbor's Sportsman 90 (4 stroke) it seems noticeably faster. (yes, I squeezed myself onto both)
Seems more than big enough for my sons, even though they are taller than average.
There was a huge aluminum restrictor in the xhaust that the dealer took out for me. Essntial;ly it was a thin washer that took the 1 5/8 or 1/3/4 header pipe down to an inch or less! Do all the kid quads have these things from the factory??

I'm assuming you are talking about the exhaust baffle. It is something that the makers put in to keep sound levels down and keep the emission levels down. It is a huge gain to remove the baffle.

Will it need to be rejetted because of the increased airflow?
