mule 2510 front shaft

Postby teamcheap » Mon Oct 19, 2009 4:16 am

I just got a mule 2510 and it has a missing U-joint and broken yokes at the front propellor shaft right at the pinion shaft going into the front diff.

Is this common for these machines ? or is this a cause for concern about the front diff maybe being damaged ?

I'm hoping the PO just broke the yokes by having the 4WD engaged or they broke when the U-joint went.

It looks like an easy repair but a bit costly.

I think I'd call that a fluke. No real experience with the Mule myself but Kawasaki is known for building quality products. The Mule has been around well over a decade so I'd bet they have all of the common problems worked out of them. The Mule is a comparably low horsepower machine built to do serious work, drive train should be able to take 4 wheel drive on pavement. I'd check the input shaft for end play, the pinion bearing for play, jack it up and turn the wheels and input shaft quite a few turns. If there is no excessive noise or resistance and the oil is clean and full I'd repair the shaft and yoke and go to work.
