I don't know what the compression should be exactly, I would think in the neighborhood of 60 pounds would be good but I'm not sure on the Yamahoppers. Yes, overfilling the crankcase could make the engine burn oil because crankcase pressure can push oil in the the air box if that's where it vents to and it's overfilled. Did you clean and re-oil the K&N? Could you have gotten a little carried away with the oil on that? If you did the engine can suck excess oil from there as well. I got run up the flag pole here last time I said this but maybe those guys aren't looking, take out the air filter and run the engine for a bit to see if the smoke will clear up. While your there look in the air box. If the crankcase vents there and it's coated in oil that's likely where the oil is coming from. If you come up low on your compression test put a small amount of Marvel Mystery oil or WD-40 in the cylinder and test again. If the compression increases then the rings need attention. My 2 cents, good luck and let us know what you find.

well went out today the oil was definetly not over filled i just got a brand new k@n air filter and its not that but i went out for a 30-40 trail ride today still smoked like hell i came back turned it of let it cool down i then checked the oil level it didnt even read on the stick so its burning major oil well i finally decided to tear the top half of the engine apart when i got to the pistion it looked fine the ring were not broke but i know there probelly worn the hell out bad but im leaning to the valve seal on the exhaust valve. so whats anyone think ?? i just did a oil change the day before today so in 30-40 min the oil went from good on the stick to not even reading on it ... does it sound like valve seals ??? if it does would it be smart idea to do a valve job on the head or just slap on new seals ?? thanks for any help !

Now that's diving into it! It's really hard to say without seeing it but from what you posted here are my 2 cents. There is no way I'd go back together without a ring set and checking the cylinder for out of round and total I.D. Same goes for the head, it's got some years and likely lots of hours so I'd also get a machinist to look it over as well as the valves, maybe put some new seats in and lap new valves in. New valves seals are in my book a must if only because you are there and it's easier than taking everything apart again later. Look the head gasket over for a place where it may have been allowing oil in the cylinder. I'm a little puzzled because it sounds like everything was a okay then you changed the oil and, all of a sudden, major problems. It doesn't make sense, or it just a coincidence.

I'm thinking valves. Get new seals and like he said, Sounds like the exhaust side. If the valves are not sealing they will allow oil and other crap into the exhaust pipe. That would also explain you exhaust pipe.
