Postby sedat » Fri Jun 26, 2009 10:26 pm

I have a 1990 250 4x4 and i want to put bigger tires on it. well the fronts are 22's and the rears are 24's with a 10" rim. what options do i have here and can i make it so all the tires are the same height?

I thought on 4x4 machines the tires needed to be the same size.

height wise thats what i thought. but i am wondering if suzuki did that on purpose because maybe there are different gear ratios between the front and rear.

Easy enough to check out. Whip the rear tires off, make a mark on one of the hubs and the input shaft. Turn the hub one full revolution and see how many times the input shaft turns. Do the same for the front but leave one tire on the ground because it's likely a differential. Note the position of the mark on the input shafts after yurn them. If they are close in ratio they may both turn, say 3 times, but stop in different positions. You might also look at Bike Bandit parts diagrams, the may have the ratios there.

Suzuki and Polaris done this back in the day. They ran two different sizes. I was told back then that they were geared to work that way. Also this site has an atv section . Most of it is pretty much correct.

Don't put on any bigger than stock because those suzuki 4x4s of that era had the ratios on the rear axles and if you succeeded the you could damage the whole atv.

If stock is 23 in front and 25 in rear, you are fine going to a 25 in front with 27 in rear. Other than 27's probablt won't fit. Just throwing numbers out.
