The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board should be applauded for its recent decision to discard proposals to expand all-terrain-vehicle trails through the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest.
The board voted 7-0 to drop plans for the 68-mile, $12.5 million trail, which had become one of the most contentious issues for the Department of Natural Resources. The forest is north of Rhinelander in northeastern Wisconsin.
