According to the California Highway Patrol, brake lock up is a factor in most motorcycle crashes. No matter how experienced the rider is, during a sudden or quick stop 70% of the weight of the bike shifts to the front wheel. This makes the back of the bike lighter and can result in the rear wheel locking up and skidding. If you over brake the front wheel causing it to lock up it will tuck under the bike causing a fall.
