The Soo Line North ATV Trail is a 112 mile trail running through Carlton, Aitkin and Cass Counties. The trail consists of three main sections: from Moose Lake to Lawler, from Lawler to Shovel Lake, from Shovel Lake to Cass Lake. The portion from Shovel Lake to Cass Lake is mostly forested with several large bogs. Portions of the trail run through Savanna State Forest, Bowstring State Forest, and Chippewa National Forest.

Gas and food are available in Moose Lake, McGregor, Palisade, Swatara, Remer, Boy River and Cass Lake. Lodging is available in Moose Lake, McGregor, Remer and Cass Lake. Campsites and picnic sites are located within Bowstring State Forest and Bergland County Park at Palisade. State parks located near the trail include Moose Lake State Park, Savanna Portage State Park and Hill River State Park. Each park has group camp sites as well as drive-in sites. A nearby Aitkin County Park, the Jacobson campground, with several drive-in sites, is located on the Mississippi River north of the townsite of Jacobson.
