Holy Cross Ranger District White River National Forest This road is a short, scenic spur off of the two wheel dirt road, Shrine Pass. Depending upon time and desire, this spur can be reached from either the top of Vail Pass, or through the town of Redcliff. This spur does have a few rough spots, primarily at the beginning. There are rock holes and shelves that angle across the road and test your suspension system. A short climb leads to a creek crossing, then climbs from a wooded area to a grassy bowl. It ends at an area that is a favorite for campers. At this point, look for the remnants of an old saw mill. TRAIL TIPS There are a few sections with steep drop-offs that may be tough for those with a fear of heights. Some sections exist where opposite wheels will lose traction if you are not careful with your wheel placement. Directions from Vail: Follow I-70 west to the Minturn exit (#171). Follow Highway 24 south through the town of Minturn for 9 miles until you come to the turn-off for the town of Redcliff just before crossing the suspension bridge. Travel east 1/2 mile to the town of Redcliff, and take the first road to the left. This road turns into the two wheel drive dirt road, Shrine Pass. Travel Shrine Pass until you see the marked trailhead for Lime Creek at approximately 2 miles from town. When you have finished the spur, travel back on Lime Creek, and then either take a right (west) back to Redcliff, or a left to complete Shrine Pass to the top of Vail Pass and I-70. Seasonal Information: Normally Accessible: Summer through Fall (NOTE: Seasons vary depending on snow depth) .
