

Salmon- Challis National Forest Lost River Ranger District Length: 3 miles Difficulty: Easy to Difficult Trail Begins: Alder Creek Road #144 Trail Ends: At the head of Sawmill Canyon Elevation: 7,400 feet Convenience available: Parking is available at this site. General Season of Use: Early July through mid October Trail follows Alder Creek through scattered aspen and fir, through open sagebrush and rock and marvelous view of the white Knob Mountain Range. By Studying the map hiker may be able to identify Shelly Mountain, Cabin Mountain, Redbird Mountain and Lime Mountain. Of special interest to rock hounds is Agate sometimes found on this trail. Photographers will want to watch for signs of deer, elk, gophers, ground squirrels and bear.
