Haystack Mountain area has been identified as having great opportunities for satisfying some of the OHV (motorcycle, trail bikes, mountain bikes) demand for Chaves Count and western Texas. The OHV area has been designated for vehicles under 50 inches wide and limited to designated trails. The 3,520 -acre terrain is extremely rugged, including such varied features as deep gullies with difficult hill climbs in and out of a scenic sandstone escarpment. Due to the single track trails, vehicles wider than 50 inches are not recommended to use in this area. Single track trails over slick rock and hard surfaces offer mountain bikers excellent challenges in this area also. How to get there: 22 miles northwest of Roswell, NM just off U.S. Highway 70.
