A vast 455,000-acre wild area that rises from the northern desert shrub ecosystem into an aspen and fir forest. OHV, horseback riding, and hiking are all possible here. This area exemplifies the open and wild spaces of the west. Beginning at the White River and continuing south for 30 miles, elevations rise from 5,000 feet to peak at 8,200 feet before abruptly and errosively falling back to mile-high elevations over the next 5 miles. This area includes the Book Cliffs and the Roan Cliffs, named for their color.
