VMP-ATV Family Trail Park donates outfitted Polaris Ranger to local Fire EMS

Christmas came early this year to the Dinwiddie County, Virginia Fire & EMS Department in the shape of a 2008 Polaris Ranger with Light Bar, Siren, Graphics and other items usually found on Emergency Rescue Vehicles, thanks to the generosity of several local businesses and their hardworking staff. The value of the vehicle is approximately $15,000.

For those not aware of what a Polaris Ranger is, an explanation is in order.   The Ranger is a Utility vehicle, also known as a UTV, that has all wheel drive, rollover protection, three passenger capacity and a bed capable of carrying emergency equipment, stretcher or backboard.

The purpose of this gift was to provide the county Fire & EMS department with off road capability to move in areas that an ambulance cannot reach to rescue injured persons.

Farmers, forestry workers and outdoor enthusiasts, among others, are particularly at risk because of the remote areas in which they are injured and the difficulty in reaching and extracting them for treatment.

Through the combined efforts of VMP-ATV Family Trail Park of Dinwiddie, Virginia, Dreamz in Motion of Dinwiddie, Virginia, Colonial Cyclesports and Polaris Industries, the Ranger was transformed from a pleasure all-terrain vehicle to an Emergency Vehicle that can maneuver through crowds, forests and rough terrain.

VMP-ATV Family Trail Park and General Manager, Christopher Edens, donated the 2008 Polaris Ranger to be used in the project, as well as the state of the art light bar and siren system. The original Ranger was then outfitted by Polaris Industries and Colonial Cyclesports with an extra battery for power, on-road and off-road tires, and the installation of the light bar and siren system. Dreamz in Motion completed the project by adding the county decals and graphics.

These local businesses saw a very real need for the Ranger and were please to be able to fulfill that need. With two of the businesses that donated their time and efforts located in Dinwiddie County, it was their way of expressing appreciation for what the county administration, employees and elected officials have done to make Dinwiddie such a great place to live and work.

The Ranger was presented to Mr. Dennis Hale, Director of Emergency Services and Mr. Tony Williams, Fire Marshall of Dinwiddie County on October 7, 2008 at Dinwiddie Fire Station 1.

The first use of the vehicle was at the Virginia Motorsports Park on the weekend of October 10th through 12th. The Ranger was imperative for Emergency Workers to weave through crowds as this event brings over 40,000 people to the complex.
