The Ruffcorn Farm might possibly have the best trails in IL, considering IL doesn't have that many trails for ATV riders anyway. Ruffcorn's 500 acre farm allows you to go almost anywhere, however, there is one important rule to follow. STAY OUT OF HIS FIELDS!!! Besides that, you can do pretty much anything. There are many types of terrain for you and your ATV to go crazy on. Some types include: flat dirt land, bumpy ruts, forestry, sand, small hills, very steep hills, and what I love most creeks. It is important to be very careful at Ruffcorn. People are not required to wear safety gear or have a flag, so it is important to look over those steep hills before you go over them so you don't run into anyone. For those that like to race, there are a few straight aways that you can drag race on with your friends. If you like riding in the mud, try going to Ruffcorn the day after it rains. It gets so muddy that you and your ATV will be covered in mud from head to toe before the day is over. It's a bitch to clean your ATV from the piles and piles of mud, but it's so worth it.
The Ruffcorn Farm is open all year long. When you first pull up to Ruffcorn, make sure you stop by the house first so you can sign a safety waiver and pay to ride. Ruffcorn is not responsible for any injury that happens to you while riding on his property. The cost to ride is $10 for the entire day. If you decide to go the next day, just tell Ruffcorn that you were there the day before and he'll only charge you $5. There is also primitive camping if you wish to stay for a longer period of time. I haven't camped there. Being a girl from the city, I need my running water. I think it costs $15 for camping. You can bring your own food and drinks also. Don't forget to bring extra gas for your machine, because there aren't any gas stations around for miles.
Overall, the Ruffcorn Farm is a hidden gem of ATV trails. You will not be disappointed after the day is over. It is an AWESOME place to ride your ATV in IL. I have to travel over 4 hours to get there, but it worth every penny of gas money traveling there just to ride my Rincon on the open country land. My boyfriend and I love the Ruffcorn Farm, and you will too!!!
