Snake Creek is one of the more interesting ATV parks in all of Minnesota. In approximately 3-5 hours you can cover every inch of the trail system, but by the time you're done you will be ready to "trailer-up". It's a demanding trail system, and I would tell most novice riders to start somewhere else before tackling "The Snake!" Nestled in the sleepy valley of south Wabasha County, with incredible views of the Mighty Mississippi, Snake Creek rarely allows the average rider to build any speed because you're constantly negotiating turns, climbing or acending the trail's bluff system and generally just having to pay attention every rut and pebble the course provides. Having said this, I would also suggest that sport bikes find another park. Snake Creek, while it plays host to a number of dirt bike enthusiasts, is best suited to the utility quad rider. Engine braking plays a major role in a couple areas of the system. Upon reaching the summit of Snake Creek's bluffy ride, you will find a couple of straight-aways to finger your machine to 30 or 40 mph, but generally you will need to temper your throttle to the tune of 15-20 mph. I ride this place at least twice a year. If you live in the Twin Cities and have yet to point your truck or SUV south, then this should give you cause to explore one of the more exciting ATV areas of our state.
